Gain hands-on experience in marine conservation and ecology
CEI internships offer the chance to gain hands-on experience in the research and conservation of marine ecosystems as well as environmental education here in South Eleuthera. Our intern program is designed to support ongoing research initiatives at CEI and provide insights into a variety of aspects associated with a remote research and education facility, allowing interns to get involved in a number of different projects across our organization. CEI interns can expect to gain skills in numerous field research techniques, including data collection in the field and wet laboratory, sample analysis in our dry laboratories, and data manipulation in the office. All our internships at CEI offer the chance to cross-train across different research themes, where scientists turn photographers, and educators can become researchers. Ultimately, our internships offer the chance to live, learn, and work with people from diverse backgrounds united by their passion for marine science, conservation, and education.

Interns are responsible for an internship fee of $1,200 per month. This includes: visa fees, shared dormitory style accommodation on campus, three meals a day in on-campus dining hall, airport transfers from Rock Sound Airport (airport code ‘RSD’), on-campus internet, professional development, and networking activities. Based on program-specific schedules, interns may have the opportunity to experience kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, community outreach, and island exploration.
In some instances, partial financial aid may be available. This is a very competitive merit and need-based selection process that is granted in special cases. Please submit the following materials along with your application to be considered: 1) Additional section to your cover letter explaining the reasons why you are requesting financial support and how much is requested, 2) An essay describing how the internship will benefit you and your future career goals. Decisions regarding financial aid will be delivered following an interview process.
