In December 2009, CEI partnered with SEEP and the Rotary Club of Eleuthera to launch Eleuthera’s first Farmers’ Market.  Farmers’ markets celebrate all that is local, fresh, and delicious.  With Eleuthera’s rich heritage in agriculture, it is especially important that we preserve the island’s history and revive the industry that once made Eleuthera the bread basket of The Bahamas.

By inviting farmers and craftspeople to a central market place we are:
  • highlighting all that is made and grown in Eleuthera
  • keeping money on the island and not spending it on imported food and goods
  • promoting possibilities for expanding agricultural production
  • increasing our food security and thus decreasing our
  • dependence on foreign sources of food
  • revitalizing communities
