Dorms

Cape Eleuthera Institute – Our two dormitories (which can each accommodate 12 people) feature an ocean view. Each dorm is split into two separate vaults, containing six beds with an adjoining common bathroom.

The Island School – Each of the two dormitories located on The Island School campus is divided into two wings, (north and south) and can accommodate 24 people. Each wing can contain a maximum of 12 beds and has a separate bathroom. The north and south wings are separated by a shared common room. The Island School dorms are available Mid-December through February and Mid-June through August.

Facilities

Octagon – The Octagon is located between the two dormitories on the CEI campus. This classroom can accommodate up to 75 people for large group presentations and classroom instruction.

Conference Room – The conference room is located in the administration building on the CEI campus. This room has a round table for discussions and is appropriate for small groups up to 14 people.

The Island School

Facilities

Lab – The lab is located on the IS campus. The room functions as a general classroom with high lab benches and stools that can seat 15 people.

Harkness – The Harkness room is located adjacent to the lab and functions as a classroom and round table discussion area for 15 people.

Computer Lab and Library – The computer lab contains 12 networked computers and a small library. An informal couch seating area facilitates discussions between smaller groups of 10-12 people.

Presentation room – This classroom is designed for large group discussions and presentations and can accommodate up to 100 people.

Wet Lab – The wet lab is located a short distance from CEI dorms and features a fully redundant, flow through seawater system as well as a recirculating freshwater system. All tanks have access to the wet lab air system for oxygenation. Small and large tanks are available for rental by the day, week, or month. Custom tank and plumbing needs can be accommodated with sufficient advance notice.

Dry Lab – The dry laboratories are located adjacent to our wet lab and are equipped with benches, microscopes, fresh water, refrigerators, and freezers. The dry lab has four separate rooms available for rent by the day, week, or month.

Vehicles

Vans – The school has a small fleet of Toyota Hiace 7, 8, and 11 passenger vans with right-hand drive and either manual or automatic transmissions. These vans feature enough space to transport people and luggage.

Work Truck – A Mazda Elf flatbed truck with a two ton maximum payload.

Boats

Cobia – The Cobia is a 40ft open deck, dive boat. This vessel can transport 40 people or 27 SCUBA divers.

Panga – a 26ft bay boat with a diesel inboard/outboard engine. The Panga can transport 18 people or 14 SCUBA divers.

Scout – The Scout is a 20ft Bay Scout with a 150hp Yamaha two stroke engine and can accommodate a maximum of 10 passengers.

Bonita – The Bonita is a 19ft Carolina skiff with a 60hp Yamaha four stroke engine. This boat functions as an inshore boat and can transport 8 people.

Equipment

Kayaks – Kayak gear available includes: two sit-on-top kayaks, 27 sit-in sea kayaks, spray skirts, paddles, and PFDs.

Camping Gear – tents, sleeping bags, ground pads, dry bags, cooking equipment, and dromedaries.

SCUBA Gear – We have regulators, BCDs, tanks, and weights available for rent. We do not rent masks, fins or snorkels and it is strongly suggested that all visitors bring their own.
